Denver Voters Decriminalize Psilocybin

DENVER – An initiative led by Decriminalize Denver was put to vote on Tuesday and though election officials said on Twitter that the “results remain unofficial” until certification on May 16, initial tallies suggest Denver may become the first city in the United States to decriminalize psilocybin, aka “magic mushrooms.”

The vote passed by a narrow margin, with 89,320 people voting in favor and 87,341 against.

The measure, Initiated Ordinate 301, would make possession and personal use of psilocybin by adults over the age of 21 Denver’s “lowest law-enforcement priority,” according to its language. It will not however, legalize or permit the sale of psilocybin by Denver cannabis businesses.
