Las Vegas marijuana testing lab closed by regulators
The Nevada Department of Taxation shut down Cannex Nevada, a marijuana testing laboratory in Las Vegas. The department, which found yeast and mold three times the allowable limit on two strains of marijuana, also issued a public health warning for several tainted cannabis products approved by the lab, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. The action against Cannex is only the latest taken against Nevada testing labs. In November, Nevada suspended the license of Certified Ag Lab for what was described as “inaccurate and misleading” potency in cannabis products. In September, regulators launched an investigation into marijuana testing labs in the state.
New effort to legalize recreational cannabis in Oklahoma
Supporters of recreational cannabis in Oklahoma refiled a petition to legalize adult-use marijuana in the state. The original petition was criticized by those who feared it would hurt Oklahoma’s fast-growing medical marijuana industry.
Michelle Tilley, the executive director of the Oklahoma branch of the American Civil Liberties Union who filed the new paperwork with Ryan Kiesel, said she did not believe there were any issues with the original petition. Tilley said the petition was redrafted to make sure there were greater protections for the existing medical marijuana industry and its patients. “We are strong supporters of Oklahoma’s medical marijuana programs, and we felt it was worthwhile to eliminate any uncertainty,” Tilley said. A 2018 effort to get rec marijuana on the state’s ballot failed.
